As we near the end of 2017, we feel inspired to revisit all of the great work that we’ve accomplished together this year. When we kicked off the year in January, we decided to focus 2017 on what we believe. These believe statements transformed into our monthly mission posts, where we shared tips, current events, menstrual education, and more. Each monthly mission highlighted one piece of the story. With each post, we shared a little more about our mission – the focus that makes Be Prepared Period the organization it is today. Let’s take a look back: READ MORE… »

At Be Prepared Period, we’re all about empowering girls and women. And whether that means sharing information that helps them to have better periods, healthier routines, or happier lives, it all factors into a well-rounded, positive life. As women, so much of what we decide to do with our lives is dictated by the messages we receive from an early age. From the time that we’re young children, we start learning what is expected of us, and what is possible. Little girls really can grow up to do anything their heart dreams of – they just have to believe it’s possible, and get the support they need to go after those dreams. READ MORE… »
“Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”
As we finish up this year, we can’t help but look back and give thanks for all of the amazing women that have impacted our lives this year. Starting with you, dear reader and supporter of all things BPP. (Yep, we mean YOU!) READ MORE… »
By Helen Sanders If you had to name one cause of mood-swings in women, what instantly comes into your mind? Would you be surprised if I said foods can determine the way you feel? Believe me it’s true, what we eat can affect our hormone levels and it’s no secret they play a big part in controlling our emotions. READ MORE… »
This month, we’re focusing on Feminine Care. That can mean a lot of things, but to us, it means taking time to share love, support, and kindness with the girls in your life, whenever possible. This can be something as simple as helping someone up who tripped at recess, or paying for the person behind you in line at the drive thru. Of course, if you’re looking to help more routinely, there are lots of options available in your area. READ MORE… »

Imagine that you’re at home, and you feel “Aunt Flow” arrive. You head to the restroom to get cleaned up, only to open up your cabinet and find that you’re out of tampons and toilet paper. So, you head to the store. But when you arrive, the shelves that are usually stocked with all of your monthly favorites are completely barren. You travel to store after store, only to find the same thing: there are absolutely no tampons, pads, or panty liners available anywhere. You realize, with confusion, fear, and concern, that you’re about to have to endure your period without any supplies – you won’t even have access to toilet paper. Does this sound extreme? If you’re lucky, then yes. But unfortunately, these stressful feelings are all too familiar for many women in the world. READ MORE… »
When it comes to menstruation and puberty, it’s totally normal to have questions. There are so many changes happening in your body, and it’s important for you to find answers to the questions you have. But if you’re not sure where to turn for guidance, it’s possible that you’ll end up with some less-than-accurate info. Heck, there are tons of grown women out there who think a tampon can get lost inside your body, like it’s just going to float up and hang out next to your liver for no reason whatsoever (for the record, this is not possible. Phew!) But when girls have questions, it can be hard for them to know where to look for the right answers. Luckily for you, we’ve got your back. READ MORE… »
One of the most commonly asked questions by parents is whether their daughter should see a gynecologist or a pediatrician when they start their periods. The answer is an easy one: according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, young girls should continue to see their pediatrician, even after the onset of menstruation.

If you’ve been hanging with Aunt Flow for a while now, we imagine that you’ve gotten to know her a little better over the months (or years!) We hope that since the day she first arrived, you’ve learned how to read the signs that she’s getting close, and prepare your body for her visit. In fact, we’re sure you’ve grown up a lot and lots of things have changed since you first got your period. So…here’s the real question. How many of you are still reaching for that same old brand of pads or tampons that your mom used (and passed the loyalty of said brand down to you?) Be honest. We’re all friends here!
Seasons change, hairstyles come and go (thank goodness!) but for some reason, the one area where we all could stand to do a little research is usually the one area we never revisit once we get comfortable. What’s up with that? Unfortunately, unlike the side ponytail some of us rocked in middle school, this is one decision that could have real repercussions for our health and wellness.
