Nervous for my first period

Hello! I am 13 and 1/2 years old and a club soccer player and competetive runner, and I am really nervous for my first period! I am so scared I am not going to notice and bleed through(one of my friends did!) or get it at a bad time(like a soccer tournament) I am looking for some first period advice, ways to talk to my mom about periods, and any guesses on when you think I will get it. I started growing boobs when I wasin 5th grade 3 years ago, and I have been getting discharge since the end of sixth grade 1 year and a half ago. I have also had spotting once(yes, I am sure it was spotting I asked my older sister about it) So yeahhh. Do you have any idea on when I might get my first period, or any ways to make it seem easier and more relaxing? Help greatly appreciated!

 Hey there!

I haven't gotten mine yet,   it I've been having back pains like my sister did before hers. I have also had white/yellow discharge and I find it really awkward to tell my mom.  I know I'm not answering but I'm just sharing my pre-story! ❤ No worries about it!  Every girl has been through it!

Hi there! I'm also your age and am really nervous about my first period! It's seems awkward to talk to anybody at school or even my mom! I have been getting brown discharge and am wondering if I'm about to start my first period! Don't worry, it happens to all us girls, so don't feels like the whole world is weighing on your shoulders, because I used to think the same thing! It happens when it happens and there's nothing to stop it. Just keep some spare pads in case you do start! I hope this helps! 😃

 Hi Ellie,

Don't worry. When my first period started, it was in the middle of class. I remember I stood up from my seat and a patch of blood stained it. If your scared of it happening at school or soccer practice, orginize a "code word". So when I has my period, I screamed the code word, which was "girl duty!!!". If you don't want to discuss it with the coach/teacher, just ask if you can go to the toilet. You can make a pad out of toilet paper. My friend used her sock for a pad! You'll get it soon, but I'll keep a stash of pads and tampon your purse/bag if I where you!

 Hi Ellie!

Peoples first periods can vary wildly (mine announced itself by an odd dizzy spell about five minutes before it started at an elderly relatives house... FUN FUN FUN), but many do find a bit of spotting, or a general feeling of crampiness or heaviness in your lower abdomen. One of my friends even had what she described as 'grumbles', like her stomach had relocated itself a few days before she started.

As Emma suggested above, keeping some panty-liners or low absorbancy sanitary towels where you can grab one will probably do the trick, however, if you do get caught out, use some toilet paper to absorb the start and ask about for a spare. Most school nurses and female staff members keep a few pads spare for just this sort of thing, and many women generally keep a few handy in their bags, wether they need them or not!

If you do get well and truly caught out, don't worry. It feels like the most mortifying thing on earth, but honestly, it has happened to the best of us. In a few years it will probably be an amusing anecdote!

 Hey there!

I have been in your shoes before. When I hit middle school, I was really scarred that my period was going to start during school. Luckily it didn't(it started the right before the first day of school for my 8th grade year!!! Yeah...)! Honestly, you're the only one who will be able to tell when it will start, but there are some warning signs. Before my first period I got dark brown discharge the day before and some small cramps the week before it started. Many girls get head aches and mood swings. If you are worried about your period starting unexpectedly, Ask your mom to go buy you some panty liners and keep some in you purse, locker, backpack, bathroom, or any other place you might need them. Your flow for your first period will probably be pretty light so a panty liner should do the trick. If your caught in a situation where you don't have a liner, ask a friend or an adult you trust. I've been in a couple situations where I've had to ask my cheer coach and one of my friends for a pad or tampon. It's not as awkward as you would think!  We've all been there at one point!  I hope this helped!!!
