 I don't know if this is even "right" but the actual tampon that soaks blood up, I just flush that but the applicator and the wrapper I trash it so...

Quite right! Never flush.There is a good chance they will end up on some beach or river bank, and swimmers, fishermen, and the fish will not thank you!!! This is one reason why menstrual cups are getting very popular. Nothing to throw away!
