Questions & Answers for those Seeking Better Periods!

FAQs
Who can post on PeriodTalk?
While the site was designed with girls, women & parents in mind, anyone with a period or puberty related question or answer is welcome to post.
Do I have to create a profile?
No. You can contribute an answer or question by simply entering your name and email. This will allow you to post to your heart’s content. We will send you a one-time email that will give you instructions for editing your profile at any time
How do I create an account?
Please visit our Create an Account page or you may also click on the “create an account” link found on the bottom of every question, or on our Ask Question page.
How do I edit my profile?
After logging in (log in found at the top of every page) you will see your username where the word “log in” once was. Click your username; this will take you to your profile. Under your profile image click “Edit Profile.” Your profile will allow you to edit your profile image, email address, password, location (city, state/province, country), age and bio information. (all of which is optional information) The community enjoys reading about the person behind the username that is asking or answering questions, we recommend you take just a moment to share a little about yourself.
What subjects are appropriate to post about?

There is no such thing as TMI (too much information) at PeriodTalk. We welcome you to share openly as long as it is on the topic of periods and puberty. We do require all posts to be PG to maintain the site appropriate for girls of all ages.

How do I know if my question has already been asked?
There are two ways to search to see if your question has already been asked/answered. 1. Type some of the keywords you think would be mentioned in your question in the search bar at the top of the page. This will bring up any results mentioning those words in a question or answer. 2. Search Topics: by visiting the Topics page you will be able to view questions already posted by topic.
How do I ask a question?
How do I answer a question?
“I have an answer! How do I share?” If you come across a question that you’d like to answer, click on the question. This will take you to that specific question’s page. Simply scroll down to the bottom and type your answer under the section titled (you guessed it!) “Your Answer.”

If there is already an answer you highly agree with but think you can add a little too it or improve it, click “improve this answer.” You will then be able to add or edit the answer.

When you are done simply log in or enter your name and email to post.

Reminder: Be polite!
This is a helping community, please remember to be mindful of other’s feelings. Rude comments will not be tolerated.
How will my question get answered?
There are a number of contributors on PeriodTalk with varying levels of experience, girls, women, parents (moms & dads), health professionals and educators. Your question could be answered by a number of these individuals. To get your question answered as quickly as possible we suggest you share it using the handy dandy links we’ve provided (Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or email). It is amazing the knowledge we have within our own networks, you just have to ask! Here at PeriodTalk we are trying to break the shame or embarrassment many women still feel about menstruation. So our suggestion is to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!
Can there be more than 1 answer for each question?
YES! Perspective is a great thing! We welcome additional answers especially when they vary. If you agree with another answer previously given but have just a little more to add, we suggest you use the “improve this answer” feature.
What if my question doesn’t get answered or I don’t get a good answer?
Sometimes questions need to be revised to help others better understand your concern or issue. Try editing your question to include more information (background story, status, efforts made to answer your question, etc.)

Try sharing your question again using our handy social links (Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or email)

What if I see a post that is not PG or inappropriate?
PeriodTalk is a community edited site. Please feel free to edit a question/answer by clicking on the “improve this question” or “improve this answer” link below the post. If all the content in the post is inappropriate you can click on the flag feature above the voting buttons and this will notify admin to take a look.
Why are some questions or answers removed?
Questions or answers off topic (not relating to periods & puberty), containing advertising or non-PG content may be removed by the community.
Can I track the questions and answers I’ve posted on PeriodTalk?
YES! By simply visiting your profile page you will be able to see the list of links to the questions and answers you’ve posted. (this feature is available even if you have not set up your profile – just find your name on the Users page)
What are the up and down arrows I see on the left side of the posts?

These arrows are our voting feature. If you see a question or answer that you feel is helpful, click the “up” arrow. If you find it not helpful, click the “down” arrow. Simple, right? Your votes will help our community recognize helpful questions and easily identify the most useful answer or reply to a question.

What is the “Unanswered” section?

As the name suggests this is the list of questions that have not yet been answered. We encourage you to check this section frequently to see if there are any questions you could reply to. Everyone likes to be heard, especially when asking a question or seeking help.

What are “Topics”?
Topics are an easy way for our community to label or categorize questions so that it is easy for others to find and answer your question. Please make sure to label your question with the appropriate topics.
What do the numbers under the usernames represent?

These numbers represent the number of contributions this member has made to PeriodTalk. Example: If user has answered 3 questions and asked 2 questions, this number would display 5. The higher the number the more active the member.

Can I use a tagline or signature in my post?

Please refrain from using taglines and signatures in your posts, or they will be removed. If you’d like to share a little about yourself we welcome you to update your bio information in your profile.

Can I promote my brand, product(s) or websites on PeriodTalk?
Posts containing blatant self-promotion are not allowed and will be deleted. PeriodTalk is about providing relevant, helpful information. If a member has a question about your brand or product we welcome you to share. Please refrain from promoting your brand/product unless a member has specifically asked for product recommendations.
